How to Clean Gold Plated Jewelry

Finding an effective method to clean jewelry is key to making it look new after multiple uses. The best way to maintain gold-plated jewelry is through preventive measures.

Key to success : Prevention

While wearing gold-plated jewelry, it is best to avoid contact with lotions, makeup, soil, and chemicals like chlorine. Cooking that includes acidic foods, working out and swimming in both chlorine and salt water pools are best to be avoided.

To do:

Gold plated jewelry is best maintained when wiped with a damp microfiber cloth after each use. While this may seem excessive, it helps to remove any smudges that become tedious after accumulation. This method does not apply after exposure to chemicals such as chlorine or alcohols and acids, these compounds cause tarnishing.

Best Avoided:

It is very important to not expose any gold-plated jewelry to alcohol based cleaning solutions. Alcohol works to break down the plating of the jewelry, which leads to tarnishing.
